Services for animal feeds
A key step forward in the development of Leafield Feeds came in June 2010. BOCM PAULS - the UK’s leading animal feed manufacturer, purchased a majority share of the company. With an annual turnover of over £400 million and production in excess of two million tonnes of pig, poultry and cattle feed, BOCM PAULS also has vast experience in the ‘co-products’ sector.
Each year it handles approximately 500,000 tonnes of these materials, through the company’s Feeds Marketing division, generating a return for the companies which supply them. Customers of Feeds marketing include virtually all of the UK’s major brewers and distillers. With the financial backing, route to market experience and expertise of BOCM PAULS, Leafield Feeds has increased the scale of its business operations ten-fold and moved from being a regional processor of food waste to a ‘one-stop’ national business, dealing with food manufacturers, distributors and retailers throughout the UK.
Currently, the company converts many thousands of tonnes of surplus food annually into high-quality ingredients for use in animal feed. The products which arrive at the company’s site range from moist material such as raw dough and confectionery to dry materials which include bread, biscuits, breakfast cereal, pastry, crisps, pastry and snacks. Often these products are ‘in date’, but arise for a number of reasons, possibly because they are produced at the start or end of a production run, fall below the minimum weight required, are of the incorrect physical size, are misshapen or have been returned by a retailer and cannot be re-sold.
Leafield Feeds processes and blends these materials into specifically formulated range of high energy meals for use in pig, poultry and ruminant rations by animal feed manufacturers or on farm homemixers.

In 2003, Leafield Feeds became the first business of its type to be accredited to FEMAS – the Feed Materials Assurance Scheme.
